| The NC Park Commission final report lists the cost as $415.40 - or $10/acre. However, the recorded deed from Mary Siler Roane, widow of former NC State Senator R.J. Roane was for $1. She donated the land as a part of the commitment to make a donation to the Park Commission in support of Park creation. R.J. Roane died on April 22, 1928. Mrs. Roane donated the land as his estate executrix and heir. The couple is buried in the Bryson City Cemetery. |
