The tract was previously owned by Forest and Rebecca McCracken; their home stood on the west bank of Deep Creek next to the true McCracken Branch, a pretty stream which bifurcates during wet periods into a pair of lovely cascades into Deep Creek. The ill-informed members of the Park Nomenclature Commission mistakenly assigned McCracken Branch name to a trickle stream on the east side of Deep Creek. The National Park Service and the USGS have perpetuated the error. |
